The main basis of commercial law is the Turkish Commercial Code, which was an integral part of the Civil Code in 1957. It acts as a bridge between trade, production and consumption. Considering that economic activities include many elements such as production, change, consumption and distribution, it can be seen that they have a wider scope than commercial activities. On the other hand, although commercial law initially deals with trade in a narrow scope, it has gradually expanded to cover economic activities in its entirety, given the inseparable relationship of commercial law practical applications with other elements.

Commercial law, which emerged over the years due to the problems in the commercial relations of people and in order to make commercial relations on a solid ground, provides solutions to the disputes of the parties. Due to its practical implications in life, commercial law is one of the broadest sub-branches of law. Practical practices of commercial law also cause the legislation to be constantly updated and changed, therefore, in addition to mastering the subject, it also necessitates the follow-up of new information and practical applications. It can be said that commercial law is more comprehensive as the provisions are generally included in the commercial law. Laws such as the Bank Cards Law and Credit Cards Law, especially the Capital Market Law, are among the sources of commercial law. Concepts such as merchant, commercial enterprise, trade registry, trade name, unfair competition, commercial books, current account, commercial affairs brokerage, commercial partnerships are among the most basic concepts of commercial law.
